Lambrineu Foundation Dental Clinic Project

Identification and partnering
In June 2005 it became clear that the Lhok Nga sub-district did not have any dental services available to its community since the tsunami destroyed its only clinic. After consulting the doctor of Lambrineu’s medical clinic contact was made with the dentist of the destroyed clinic, who survived the tsunami. A work plan, an inventory of required equipment, materials and medicine, and the related budget were made based on the population of the project area.

Purpose of the Dental Clinic

Dental Clinic

Contacts were made with the Belgian Indonesian Medical Social Association (Bimesa), who responded quickly by donating and shipping a fully operational dental chair and X-ray apparatus. The equipment was installed in the new dental clinic room in the community home in November 2005. The dentist was then hired and asked to buy the required materials and medicine in the city of Medan, resulting in a fully operational dental clinic at the beginning of December. The dental clinic operates at the same hours as the walk-in hours of the medical clinic, from 15.00 – 18.00. A large number of patients is expected in the first months as most of Lhok Nga’s population has not seen a dentist for nearly one year now.

Lambrineu is still seeking funds to implement a dental program aimed at providing dental prevention and treatment services among children through monthly visits of schools. The dentist, in coordination with the medical doctor, has provided input for a proposal and budget, which can be found under ‘proposals’ on this website.
