Before tsunami

• Lhoknga: main source of income is agriculture
• Wet (rice) or dry land (ginger, soy bean, chili, melon, coconut)
• Ginger: 300 ha., 5000 tons / year
• Long tradition, well-organized, farmers group and cooperative
• Main sales to cooperative: best security

After tsunami

• Farmers and cooperative lost most of their assets; from seed to fertilizer, from land to crops, from tools to equipment
• Farmers have no capital to re-start

Project impact

• Inclusion of 320 full-time ginger farmers
• Represents nearly 90% of all full-timers and 65% of all farmers
• Rehabilitate of production + enhance knowledge structure
